Provider: Delta Omega
Description: Understanding the difference between advocacy and lobbying, and what each means for your organization, is essential for public health professionals who want to engage in policy-related work with confidence. In Advocacy & Lobbying for Public Health, we’ll explore both the foundational concepts and real-world applications of effective, responsible advocacy.
This session brings together two Delta Omega members with complementary experience in law, policy, and public health advocacy:
Gwyneth M. Eliasson, from Delta Omega’s Alpha Eta chapter at Rutgers School of Public Health, will walk through the key distinctions between advocacy and lobbying, address common concerns, and share tools and resources to help organizations navigate this work thoughtfully and appropriately.
Olivia Zarella, from the Alpha Upsilon chapter at the Colorado School of Public Health, will share lessons from the #SaveNIOSHMining campaign, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how strategic communication, narrative framing, and data-driven storytelling helped mobilize stakeholders and elevate an issue at the national level.
