Provider: University of Memphis School of Public Health
Description: This module prepares health department staff to address public health challenges caused by climate and weather hazards. It explains how extreme heat, flooding, severe storms, drought, wildfire smoke, and winter weather affect health and strain healthcare systems. The module introduces key concepts such as mitigation, adaptation, resilience, vulnerability, and equity, with attention to high-risk groups including children, older adults, low-income families, rural residents, and people with chronic conditions.
Throughout the module, participants will apply the CDC BRACE framework and the three levels of prevention using Tennessee-specific examples. The training connects climate preparedness with Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) programs such as CHANT, WIC, TNCLPPP, and CSFP to support coordinated action. Practical tools, case studies, and planning resources will strengthen health department staff readiness and improve community resilience across the state.
