TDH The Built Environment and Public Health 1129976

Provider: University of Memphis School of Public Health
Description: This module focuses on the increasing recognition that the built environment can impact human health. The built environment includes all of the human-made or modified physical parts of where we live and work (e.g., homes, workplaces, schools, streets, open spaces, parks, and health care setting), and community features such as sidewalks, trails, public transit, and connectivity among destinations.
The built environment has both positive and negative effects on human health, for example, through exposures to air, water, crime, and other social pressures. In addition, the built environment could influence a person’s health behaviors such as physical activity and diet. The increasing recognition and understanding of the signification of built environment to health will lead to innovative and promising policy interventions to solve public health problems such as obesity and chronic diseases
